Yearbook Excursion

Sid and his high school friend Dougie took a trip not only down memory lane, but out with Legends Outdoors as well.  Sid and Dougie also were classmates with a few of the guides and Sid also brought his son Ethan along for the excursion.  The morning started off with rain and wind as they set out on the pontoon boat.  The lake level had recently risen and some stain was in sections of the lake making for some changing conditions.  The three anglers casted about the lake in hopes of the spring time opportunity in Lake Wallenpaupack that is only a cast away.  This annual trip was very typical as they group spoke about their hunting activities, rock n' roll music, and fishing adventures.  The day also had a shore lunch consisting of duck bratwursts, venison jalapeno hot dogs, and homemade sauerkraut that Sid's friend Andy provided.  Also brought along were Middleswarth BBQ potato chips that Dougie usually never goes anywhere without these by his side to snack on. The laughs and fun continued all day long as the anglers fished along with very few bites on this challenging waterway.  The anglers caught two nice smallmouths and then it eventually happened as Ethan set the hook on a solid strike!  The peeling of the line and the power runs told the boat all they needed to know what the young angler had hooked. Excitement was in the air as they all watched on and witnessed the seemingly endless battle between man and fish. With careful skill, Ethan brought aboard a 16# stiped bass to pose for a group photo.  The patience had paid off in a big way as they celebrated the catch.  Just before the day ended, Ethan had another big strike and hooked into yet another spring giant. This time the species would be different though as a rare northern pike surfaced and started to do a roll to shake free of Ethan's hooks.  The entire boat looked on in astonishment as they agreed this fish went in the vicinity of the 40" mark before the fish shook free of the hooks and returned to the depths of the lake.  A sigh of disappointment shrouded the boat, but they were able to see this fish very clearly and once again it reiterated the potential this legendary lake provides.  The day would soon end as the anglers had only a handful of opportunities which were all quality fish.  It was another awesome trip for this group and we look forward to seeing Sid and the group back for their annual adventure in 2023!
