Dennis and his family consisting of his son Dave, daughter-in-law Augie, and grandchildren Gavin and Ella went out for an April outing with Legends Outdoors. Dennis is no stranger to getting out on Lake Wallenpaupack with us as he is a member of the Kapsize Crew that take an annual group outing on this scenic waterway. Dave and his family came up north from their southern Pennsylvania residence to visit Dennis, and this trip was one of the things on their itinerary while in the Poconos. They boarded the pontoon boat in the late morning and headed out on the lake. It was a chilly start in the 40's, but the sun quickly warmed up the group on this day as the temperatures climbed to the low 60's by the end of the trip. The family meandered around carving up the waters with very light line and Keitech Baits probing for the fish in the chilly waters. This would be a day about quality for sure as when the bites happened, they happened in a big way! The group would catch a dozen very nice smallmouth bass as they played them out carefully to the the boat. The size ranges were from 16 1/2" to 21 1/2" and all released back into the lake. Dave was fishing during the day and got a tell tale strike from a striped bass and the battle would be on after he set the hook. Power run after power run was made by this giant of the depths as Dave played the fish out with extreme patients and a good drag setting. The minutes ticked by and the battle waged on as it was back and forth like two titans locked in stand still. Eventually the striped bass was played out and worked carefully to the net on the four pound test line and after 20 minutes the 18 pound fish that measured 33" was brought aboard the boat. The family cheered with excitement as they peered at the beautiful fish and posed for a photo together. There were plenty of stories and conversations during the day as the family enjoyed the beautiful springtime backdrop and a light breeze that whispered in their ears every so often. They caught a bonus perch and also had some tasty snacks out on the water as the day eventually came to a close. It will be a day to remember for the family and we look forward to seeing them back again in the future and the return of the Kapsize Crew later on in 2022!
