Winter Day in PA

Jay and his father Mike are Legends Outdoors faithfuls and Jay has a young son that surely is trending that way and has taken a strong liking to ice-fishing over the last few years.  Alex is borderline obsessed with the sport and regardless of temperature or winds, he is revved up to go.  This day Jay had his father Mike and mother Carol along with his two sons Alex and Ben out on the frozen Pennsylvania waterway for some hard-water action.  With the temperature at 14 degrees in the parking lot when the guide arrived this morning and expected winds to be stiff, this would be a challenging day even for a veteran of the sport.  The tent would be set up and holes for tip-ups and jigging were cut into the ice in preparation for Jay's arrival.  It didn't take long after they got there to get into some action on the day as the tip-ups were fairly active and the jigging poles seen some fish take the offerings too.  As the wind swept across the lake and the charcoal grill stayed lit for anglers to gather around to warm their hands and such, plenty of conversations took place and some sunshine did peek out to help in heating up the group.  There were venison jalapeno hot dogs that were freshly cooked that hit the spot and warmed the anglers as the winds were persistent and showed very little let up during the day.  The group caught five largemouth bass, several pickerel, and some panfish mixed in including perch and bluegill to round out their catches.  Alex got a new fish bag that is submerged under the ice with floats on top that go across the hole to keep the fish alive and to avoid having them freeze during the day.  This worked great for the bunch of panfish and pickerel that were caught and kept for harvesting.   The group was having so much fun and an amazing time and was punctuated by a soaring bald eagle that glided overhead in the wind currents adding that proverbial cherry on top for Jay and his family.  The day would eventually wind down and the anglers headed of the lake with many a memory from this outing and we look forward to seeing Jay once again later in 2021 for another Legends Outdoors adventure.
