Building a Better Mousetrap

Returning clients in Paul and his son Ryan visited Lake Wallenpaupack from the southern part of the state for their annual summer fishing outing with Legends Outdoors.  Their morning started out cool and cloudy as they got after it right away with topwater baits.  The action was fairly decent as the lured many a bass to take their offerings in the morning.  The wind was light and variable as the comfortable coolness kept the anglers sharp and focused while dissecting the shallows.  They had plenty of laughs and some snacks during the outing and would eventually switch over to Keitech Baits, but kept it shallow as they were on a decent bite, but just needed a change in tactics to continue to entice strikes. During the outing, Ryan hooked into a decent smallmouth and when it jumped near the boat it spit out something of rather large size.  Low and behold it was a mouse as shown in the photo below.  Usually a largemouth bass is associated with eating mice and plastic frogs that anglers fish, but this time a smallmouth bass was the predator that consumed that mouse.  A rare occurrence indeed!  Paul and Ryan during the day caught smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and a spattering of panfish while having a great father/son day out and we look forward to seeing them back again in 2021 for their annual trip.
