Empire State Couldn't Wait!
When New York opened up certain counties to guiding...faithful client Jim was on board right away! The day was mostly calm and sunny all day with a few spurts of south wind heading up the lake from time to time. There was a slight crispness in the air early on, but quickly the spring sun and heat of the day rapidly increased the air and water temperatures. Jim anxiously wanted to catch his first topwater fish of 2020 and did so on a Megabass topwater as a robust smallmouth inhaled the offering and leaped out of the water and kept digging in the water trying to shake the hooks. It was a great start to what would be a great day. Jim quickly analyzed the situations of the different areas that he was in and adjusted his offerings all day from topwater, to jerkbaits, to jigs, to Keitech Swing Impacts. By rotating these three baits that he found to work after the short-lived topwater bite; Jim was able to amass dozens and dozens of bites in the 58-66 degree water. Jim would be at it for a full day fueling himself with a sandwich, chips, Gatorade, and his traditional Twizzlers while offering them a merry-go-round of baits. What he would catch would be quite a variety consisting of many crappie (both black and white), smallmouth bass, yellow perch, a largemouth bass, and even a long ear sunfish decided to join the party. All in all Jim amassed over three dozen fish and had an absolute blast enjoying the tremendous action along with the sights and sounds of spring and looks forward to getting back out very soon with Legends Outdoors for another adventure.
