Joe and Alex were chomping at the bit to get back up to the finger lakes in NY, and when it was finally "A GO".....that is what happened. In 2019 Alex did "The Big Bait Trip" for a two day span all by himself as where no baits under 4" for two days were permitted to be thrown to discipline oneself to strictly stay with the big baits for the big bites. Well in 2020 it would be version 2.0 and Joe was back in the mix and made the trek along with his good buddy. It was full throttle for two days and the hopes of catching a tiger musky was first and foremost in the thoughts of the anglers. Alex caught one last year and Joe was looking to rummage up his first. It wouldn't take long before that would happen as Joe switched baits a few times as there were some follow-ins, but the finicky toothed species were not committing. He would then find a bait that triggered strikes and it was game on for him. He would manage not one, but three on the trip..thus earning his tiger musky stripes. Joe also caught a huge smallmouth bass that hit the scales at 4.32# and a few perch and other smallmouth bass. Alex would continue to heave out the big offerings and had a slower time of it on the trip, but did catch some largemouth, smallmouth and perch during the two days. With the bright high sun and slick conditions, getting the fish to commit was a real chore as these anglers ground it out for two days. They had turkey sandwiches, snacks, and their traditional Monster Energy Drinks while sharing in their stories of the winter and early spring. On another note, Alex did capture a brilliant sunrise as seen below and several springtime wildlife was seen during the outing. A great time was had by these two friends as they put Big Bait Trip version 2.0 in the books and we look forward to seeing them back again for another Legends Outdoors Adventure.
