Fall Foliage & Fickle Fish
Legends Outdoors Regular, Alex from Long Island New York, has told many a tale to his wife Larissa about his exploits out with our service through the years. She also likes to fish and has been doing much of it on their camping expeditions and around the Long Island area. She took a trek with her husband for a fall day out in Mid-October on a very call autumn day. A chilly morning with heavy fog that blanketed the lake as the water in the low 60's was a big contrast to the air temps that were much colder to start the day. The conditions aside from the early fog seemed very favorable, but the fish were not seeing it as we were. The grass of the lake was still very healthy and green and the serenity of the day just made it feel oh so right, but once again the fish did not want to cooperate what-so-ever with any offering the anglers threw at them. Topwater, jigs, Keitech, jerkbaits, swimbaits, Senkos, crankbaits, and so on and so forth all yielded very few bites on the day for this duo as it was a real head-scratcher. The fall foliage was off the charts beautiful and the air temperatures would wind up being very comfortable before rains fell for the last few hours of the outing, but they hung in there and kept at it as is usually the case when Alex is on board. They did catch a very nice smallmouth along with another smallmouth and a few bluegills during the day, but the real story was Alex and Larissa sharing a nice day out together on a scenic waterway in the great outdoors.
