Arthur and Kyle headed out on a Mid-March day to do some ice-fishing with Legends Outdoors. These men are avid fishermen, but never have gone ice-fishing and wanted to give it a whirl. The Reading area residents trudged out on 8-10" of ice with light winds and air temperatures that climbed into the 40's. With a recent warming trend and the ice waning rapidly this in essence would be the last excursion of the ice-fishing season. The pair of anglers used tip-ups and jigging both with great success as they had in the neighborhood of 30-40 flags and were running all about the place as the fish were voracious on this day. Pickerel was the main fish caught on tip-ups as they caught quite a few including some real hefty ones including one just shy of 24" in length. They also caught two largemouth bass that were both released on the tip-ups. Rounding out the other species were perch, bluegill, pumpkinseeds and even a bullhead showed up to the party! The jigging rods had some good action too as the panfish kept the men busy also. They were also treated to a myriad of wildlife including gaggles of geese flying in formation and a soaring bald eagle that swept down very low overhead with grace and fearlessness. Arthur and Kyle were treated to venison hot dogs on the day and some Legends Outdoors homemade pickled pickerel. This was such a big hit that the men got the recipe and were going to do some themselves with their harvest of pickerel. They also harvested some panfish for a fish fry. Wow...what a day out for this pair and a great way to end the ice-fishing season at Legends Outdoors!
