Son & Father in Clear Water

Ed & his son Ed Jr. are no strangers to fishing and fish often in their home state of New Jersey.  They have fished with Legends Outdoors before and wanted to do a two-day trip to New York this June.  They did just that in the middle of the month and had some great weather for it also!  Day number one was coming off a very cold night so there was quite a chill in the air as they sped down lake towards their starting spot.  Ed Jr. is a top water fanatic and started off with that while his dad led off with Keitech and stayed with it for the entire day.  It was a very calm morning as the Ed got quite a few blow ups from smallmouth bass during the first few hours.  The bites kept coming in the form of smallmouth bass and perch as the rockbass were a no show for the first half of the day.  Ed Jr. would switch to wacky rigged baits and ned rig style baits to explore different techniques as the sun got high and bright as the blue skies showed very little signs of any clouds during the day one outing.  The duo enjoyed some morning coffee and sandwiches later on with some waters to keep their stamina and energy going during the day.  They light lined their way up to 50 fish before the end of the first day came about in smallmouth bass, perch and rockbass as the clear waters mesmerized these two men as they are used to fishing much smaller bodies of water with much dingier water.  Day number two was a much warmer morning as Ed and Ed were fired up about getting back out on the crystal clear waters and set their goal at 70 fish for the day.  The day had a slight breeze coming from a South direction as Ed Jr. started again with topwater and got many bites with it again today and had a much better land ratio to strike than the day before as the fish seemed a bit more aggressive on this morning.  The men were once again wearing AFTCO and Columbia gear to keep themselves cool and protected from the bright sun that once again shown down with intensity on this day.  The wind calmed down once again as making day number two look like a carbon copy of day one after the first few hours.  Many a fish came on topwater early and then the Keitech Baits took center stage as the fish became finicky and reluctant to bite many of the offerings.  A few were caught on wacky rig mixed in, but the Keitech enticed the most strikes as the day was streaky with ultra hot periods and then lulls.  They would reach their goal of 70 and Ed Sr. would catch a nice smallmouth on his last cast to make it 76 for the day before the trip came to an end.  They caught one nice pickerel, and the rest were smallmouth bass, perch and rockbass on the day.  This was surely a different type of fishing for this father and son duo and they truly embraced it and adapted well while having an absolute blast.
