Setting Hooks Before Hitting the Books

Annual returning clients, Don and his daughter Katie took their usual fishing trip aboard the Legends Outdoors Pontoon Boat in late August.  Tradition was for Don to get out with his daughter before she returns to college for the fall semester.  The plan is to get out for stripers early to start the day and then probe the shallower waters afterwards.  If memory serves correctly they haven't missed yet on one of their yearly trips catching a striper and they were determined to have it happen yet again in 2019. Their day was a beautiful and breezy late summer outing which was a picture perfect setting for a father and daughter day out together.  They probed the deep waters with bait for a while without any strikes, but just before they were going to pull the plug on it....WHAM....and the battle was on as the tell-tale smack and drag singing meant only one thing.  Katie played out the Lake Wallenpaupack fish ever so carefully as even the PAFBC had a front row view of the battle as they were in a nearby boat to witness the struggle.  It would be Katie in the end that would be victor as the striped bass in the 14# class came aboard for a nice photo before being released.  They were very thrilled, had a few snacks, and then went to phase two of the outing.  It was on to slinging around Keitech Baits with light line as the sun became higher in the sky for this duo. They would methodically catch perch, pickerel, smallmouth bass, and a few rockbass here and there while admiring the variety of wildlife around the lake such as bald eagles, mallard ducks, blue heron, and a pair of river otters.  It was truly a wonderful day out on Lake Wallenpaupack for Don and Katie.
