Eye of the Tiger
Predetermined back in the winter when scheduling the trips, Alex wanted to go with a "Big Bait" theme for this weekend. He adores throwing huge baits and likes to do so whenever possible, so he and the guide made a rule that for two days that nothing under 4" in length would be allowed to be thrown as a firm rule with no exceptions. Alex's fishing partner, Joe couldn't make the trip due to other commitments, so Alex went it alone and headed west from Long Island, N.Y. He had never caught a Tiger Musky so that was the main goal on day 1 and had to do so with the lure stipulation. A cloudy and calm day with moderate temperatures greeted this returning client as he rigged up and started casting about. Without exaggeration, eight minutes into the day, he hooked up and achieved the goal of catching a tiger musky. This vibrant fish posed for a nice photo before being released back into the depths. Alex fished hard and kept at it for another bite from a tiger musky with big baits. He kept up his stamina with a Glenburn Grill Hoagie and some snacks as he launched the casts. He had a very big musky that followed his swimbait to the boat a few feet behind; he thought quickly and figure eighted the bait, but it just descended back into the darkness of the water never to be seen again for the day. It was a heart throbbing moment and one of the reasons he throws the big baits and went for it. Aside from the musky pursuit, he caught some solid bass for the day including some hefty smallmouths and quality largemouths filling out the day nicely. The wind would then pick up and the temperature dropped, seemingly shutting the door on the action for day one as it would come to a close. Day two seen calm waters and rain most of the day as Alex was revved up for another day of big bait fishing. He would pound away at it all day on this damp May day and caught some nice smallmouth bass and pickerel during the outing. He filled up on Subway Hoagies and snacks on day two and had plenty of laughs and fun along the way. A great two-day big bait trip for Alex with many memories that were compiled and we look forward to seeing him again later in 2019!
